My statement about the work I have submitted, a little bit about myself and why I am interested in this programme.

The work I have submitted has come from my most recent A2 level projects in Art and Textiles and from my current Foundation course. As shown; I love to experiment with materials and medias such as batiqué, felting and screen printing especially. Textiles is a big part of the Fashion industry as it is how you manipulate and think about how the fabric can connect and fold together to create the garment and I feel I am best with working with materials.

Currently I am studying a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Central Saint Martins where I am specialised in Performance Design. I feel that in this aspect of fashion it is giving me a different approach and teaching me about the importance of the historical aspects of Fashion, and how current trends are so inspired by the earlier centuries, it is really fascinating. Also it is making my portfolio much more unique and different from the rest of the applicants as it is a different type of Fashion - more the costume side.

I am interested in this programme as I have always loved to be part of the Fashion industry, especially the design aspect. The environment allows you to be creative and independent yet competitive and challenging as you are working to tight deadlines and briefs. In 10 years time I see myself working towards a collection that I will see on the runways and in magazines. I want to also travel and do some freelance designs too. I know this programme will give me all the knowledge and opportunities I need to get to where I want to be. I am extremely interested and excited to learn more about the world of fashion and I am dedicated to succeed in this competitive industry.

Performance Design - Rags to Riches

Brief - To design a costume from something old into something new based on an victorian profession.
I researched into London Gypsies as my profession, and re-made 3 second hand shirts and a dress into the skirt and top above.

Performance Design - W(e)ardrobe Project - Documentation of making and final outcome

Brief - Design a wearable garment which transforms into a piece of furniture.
I designed a dress that turns into a lamp; I researched into lamp stand silhouettes and used this inspiration for my garment. The lamp acts as the head accessory.

Felting

Felt samples - Technique sheet with a watercolour, ink, charcoal, chalk and pastel studies of each piece.

Final outcome photos on the mannequin

My final design sketch and close ups of my design. More photos on the body are below.

3D accessories piece

This design sheet is showing my final design I made for my 3D project 'Eat'. The propsal was to design wearable objects and accessories that are seductive and celebrate the act of eating. I researched into festivals where food is a big part of the experience and created small, biscuit sized gingham boxes. They expressed the act of sharing food and they were worn around the neck, on the chest.

Lamintate Dress

I am not one to work with ordinary materials as shown so far, I love experimenting with unusual materials. This dress is made by laminated pieces (a thick layer of glue with papers and mesh in between) gathered, stitched and shaped.

Batiqué Samples

These Batiqué samples were to develop the pieces to work with for my dress.

Batiqué Dress

This dress is made from seperate batiqué pieces (as shown in the post above). Hand sewn onto calico and fitted onto the mannequin. I love manipulating and working with materials which helps a lot in the Fashion industry.

Screen Printed Canvas

My screen print design; I overlapped and layered my prints and experimented with colour.

Textiles Final Piece

My textiles piece created using screen printing. I screen printed 3 different types of rows of houses, cut them up, layered them and cut windows out so other colours showed through. This piece shows my love for fabrics, and textile techniques which I can easily incooporate into my fashion designs.
